⭐ Pro Tip: How We Stayed in a 5 star Resort for Free ⭐

Cascais restaurants
Using our Amex Platinum benefits got us 2 free nights in a suite plus a number of free meals at one of the best restaurants in Cascais plus a free facial!

The American Express Platinum card comes with a fantastic annual travel credit for prepaid bookings through their Fine Hotels + Resorts program. We were able to leverage this by each having our own card. We booked two consecutive nights at the beautiful Intercontinental Cascais-Estoril, applying one card’s credit to the first night and the second card’s credit to the second night, which covered the entire cost of the room for a two-night stay.

The Amex program provided us with a $100 property credit for each night booked this way. I used one of the credits for a fabulous facial at the hotel spa, which was a wonderful bonus.  The other credit we used for a lunch at the hotel’s restaurant which was amazing and is considered one of the best restaurants in Cascais!

Separately, because the hotel is part of the IHG group and we have IHG Diamond status, we also received our elite perks like the complimentary breakfast, a room upgrade – we were given a suite overlooking the sea, and a 4 PM late check-out.

These status benefits stacked perfectly with the Amex credits, but they weren’t part of the card’s offer itself. It’s a great example of how combining different loyalty programs can create an amazing travel experience.
