If you’d told my younger self—hunting down dry date bars at the lone corner juice spot—that one day Vancouver vegan treats would be this abundant, I’d have laughed you out of Kits.
But this summer, we had the luxury to stay in the city for over 2 months – watching over doggies with Trusted Housesitters and sniffing out some of the best vegan bakeries Vancouver has to offer!
So much has changed since we spent a substantial amount of time here. The city now pulses with sweet, creative, plant-based eats, spanning stuffed croissants still warm from the oven, decadent cakes, stuffed cream donuts, tiramisu, nanaimo bars and exotic pies – even in the free form of galettes.
Let’s take a delicious stroll through the top vegan bakeries Vancouver has to offer. We also included a non vegan restaurant that serves the best Vancouver vegan cannoli that rivals the ones we found in Rome!
To Live For Bakery & Cafe
The first time I pushed open the door into To Live For Bakery & Cafe, I was hit with the scents of fresh bread and chocolaty coffee. It was intoxicating!
This all-vegan bakery is an airy, bright space that always feels welcoming. The staff is cheery and helpful. And to booth, this place is on the Billie Eilish recommended restaurant list!
The bakery itself is visible through a window – so you can see the delicious creations being made. There is seating inside and some outside as well. Although finding a table can be difficult as this is a popular place!
The show-stoppers are Erin Ireland’s legendary banana bread, luscious chocolate hazelnut mousse cake, and whatever seasonal doughnut happens to grace the counter.
Their inventiveness never fails: flaky butter croissants, almond or pistachio stuffed croissants, light cupcakes with vibrant frosting, or their perfectly creamy cheesecake. Gluten-free sweet tooths, rejoice—there’s plenty for you too. This is a place that genuinely deserves its “vegan cake Vancouver” reputation.

Level V Bakery x Whisk Matcha Café
Level V Bakery (Mount Pleasant) is a bright place inside Whisk Matcha Café. The Whisk staff knows their stuff, although is not as welcoming as some of the other Vancouver vegan bakeries listed here. Seating is limited—about 6 or 7 small tables along the window—so grab-and-go is the norm.
Locals love Level V for its Ube Mochi Bun which is an Asian style “milk” bread filled with ube jam and chewy mochi topped with a crunchy ube flavoured cookie crust. Come early in the day to get it as it is usually sold out by the afternoon.
Some other favorites are the matcha almond croissants (delicate, flaky, just sweet enough), pineapple buns, mochi muffins, salted “yolk” buns, vegan macarons, and stunning cakes—including my favorite – the tiramisu. There is also yuzu sponge, and hojicha opera cake.
Their menu is imaginative and ever-rotating, and you can pair your sweets with a soul-warming matcha latte. Great for adventurous treat-seekers and vegan pastry fans alike.

Edible Flours
Kitsilano’s Edible Flours is the neighborhood vegan bakery to beat: warm, welcoming, and fragrant with just-baked goodness. There’s a bit of cozy seating if you want to linger, but it’s also convenient for takeout.
Their cinnamon buns are to die for (giant and gooey – get them warmed up), s’mores bars, lemon blueberry loaves, hearty vegan cookies, and especially their cheesecake. The options for gluten-free and keto/sugar-free treats make it a safe haven for people with dietary needs as well.

Bonus Bakery (Inside Freshii)
Bonus Bakery, a Vancouver vegan icon, recently shifted to a takeout counter inside Freshii on Burrard Street. While there’s no window bar or dedicated café seating, you can grab a spot within Freshii or simply take your treats to go.
The bestsellers: the famed Bonus Cookie (crammed with Oreos, chocolate, marshmallow, and pretzels), a variety of mouth watering donuts, party-sized cookie cakes, double-baked almond croissants, cinnamon buns and pizza pretzels.
Keep an eye out for seasonal creations—Bonus Bakery is always inventing something new, and everything is 100% plant-based. Ideal for pick-up before a seawall stroll or if you need to sweeten up your workday.
Don’t be surprised to see Bonus Bakery items in other cafes as well including Bunny Cafe – a space where you can drink coffee and enjoy Bonus Bakery baked goods in the company of rescue bunny rabbits (and yes, you can adopt one there as well).

Vegan Pudding & Co. (Sai Plant Deli)
After traveling the world for four and a half years, poet Sora and his wife Hiro were drawn to Vancouver in 2011, seeking a home in the city’s vegan-friendly community. Sora began hosting local poetry readings, which uniquely featured homemade vegan food crafted by Hiro.
For one event, Sora asked her to create a vegan custard pudding which was such a success Vegan Pudding & Co. was born. It is home to Canada’s only fully vegan pudding shop, Vegan Pudding & Co. offers creamy Japanese-inspired puddings from a small grab-and-go window on Richards Street.
There’s no seating—just a ledge outside for leaning. You can also purchase these incredible puddings in other stores including Whole Foods,T & T, Pomme etc.,
Their claim to fame is a rotating menu of plant-based puddings: chocolate, vanilla, matcha with black sesame, and crème brûlée among the favorites. All puddings are certified organic and vegan. Free of soy, gluten, white sugar, dairy, egg and nuts.

Vogue Cakes
If a showstopper “vegan cake Vancouver” is what you need, Vogue Cakes delivers the wow. This creative dessert studio doesn’t have a walk-in bakery—order for pickup or look for their cakes sold at various local markets and grocers like Fresh St. Markets and City Avenue Market.
Signature items include their custom 3D vegan cakes, Boston Cream pies, vegan tiramisu, croissants, eclairs and a range of gluten- and nut-free options, all beautifully decorated and seriously delicious. Custom orders are their forte—perfect for birthdays, weddings, parties, or a little midweek celebration.

Feast & Fallow
Feast & Fallow is located in Oakridge and is one of the largest Vancouver vegan cafés from a seating perspective! There are a few small tables outside and a large amount inside.
The community vibe here is strong, especially on Saturdays when they offer All Day Brunch (The Lox Benny is fantastic) and specialty cakes like the Citrus Olive Oil with Pistachios are available. Overall, the prices here are very reasonable when compared to other Vancouver vegan bakeries.
Last time I arrived there on a Saturday it was only 10:30 am and there was only one Chocolate Tahini Babka left – one of their highly popular treats. Cookies are also a big seller as are their addictive cinnamon buns – ask the friendly baristas to warm them up for you.
The banana bread and intricate and delicious oat milk lattes are staples that regulars swear by. Get there early—Saturday brunch time gets buzzy, and the pastries don’t last long.

The Gluten Free Epicurean
The Gluten Free Epicurian is a cheerful East 15th bakery that is all about tasty, allergy-friendly sweets. Not everything here is vegan – but most things are. This is a Vancouver vegan staple for those also requiring gluten free options.
Keep in mind, this is a true bakery shop. There is no seating, except for one picnic table outside which is almost always occupied. If you arrive in the afternoon expect most of the freshly baked vegan staples to be gone.
There are 2 fridges – one with sweet options and the other with savory ones. Favorites include their free form pies called galettes, grain-free tarts, nanaimo bars, chocolate and other doughnuts, vegan cupcakes, cookies, and plenty of “take & bake” options including sourdough pizza dough.
Everything is clearly labeled, making it a great stop for gluten-free vegans who want real, flavorful ingredients without compromise.

Via Tevere
Via Tevere is an Italian Restaurant that is NOT a bakery nor is it vegan. However, my Italian vegan friends brought us here for their vegan tiramisu and vegan cannoli that is to die for! There are 2 locations, but the Main St. one is my favorite. The other one is on Victoria Drive.
